YauBus: common questions
Is YauBus free?
Yes. There are no ads, no sign-up and nothing to buy.
Where do the times come from?
Live arrival times come straight from the Hong Kong Government's open data (DATA.GOV.HK), as published by the bus companies and the MTR.
Why does a time say "Estimate"?
When a bus company has no live time for a bus, YauBus works one out from the company's timetable and marks it as an estimate.
Which phones can use it?
Android phones with Android 7 or newer. There is no iPhone version yet.
Does YauBus know where I am?
Only if you allow it, and only for features that need it, such as stops near you. Your location is never sent to us. The privacy policy has the details.
Can I make the text bigger?
Yes. Settings has three text sizes, four colours and a high contrast mode, and the times can be read aloud.
Is YauBus part of KMB, Citybus or the MTR?
No. YauBus is made by Yau Apps, an independent team. It is not connected with any bus company, the MTR or the Hong Kong Government.
I found a mistake. How do I report it?
Please email us with the route, the stop and what you saw. A screenshot helps a lot.
I left something on a bus. Can YauBus help?
Yes. In My stops, tap More on a stop's card, then "Lost something? Contact the bus company" to see the company's lost property number and its online form. The MTR's lost property office is on the MTR tab, and "Transport company phone numbers" in Settings lists every company.
How does YauBus know which side is sunny?
It follows the bus along its real route and works out where the sun is at every 100 metres of the ride, then adds up the sun on each side. Buildings, hills and clouds are not counted, so take it as a guide.
Does the walking guide work with the screen locked?
Yes. It keeps saying each turn and crossing with the phone in your pocket, shows a notification with a Stop button, and has a switch to turn the voice off.

Yes. Add the YauBus widget to see your next bus without opening the app.
